Ep: #25 - The Importance of Following Your Own Path In Life & Weight Loss

I am pretty sure, reach out to me on messenger (bottom right) and let me know that you like me will have had situations come up in life, that have led to you re-evaluating the whole of your life? Things that have perhaps really hit you hard. For me, the ones that spring to mind are milestone birthdays and people passing etc.

I have realised more and more since I hit 40, for example, that life is just too short to try and be someone you're not. Or to do things that don't fit with who I am and what I want out of life. I want to be authentically me and to live the life I want to not the one I think I "should".

I was recording for a podcast this week. I was talking to the lovely Sarah Redden who has a podcast "Conversations with Sarah" and it set me thinking about how I was before I started my weight loss journey.

When I think back, I feel like I spent the first 40 years of my life somehow walking around with blinkers on. Going through the day to day motions of life almost in a bit of a fog.

I never really took the time to think about what I wanted or why. I just bimbled along, I'd go to work, tend house and family etc and just plodded on. Now there was nothing wrong with this normal life but for me personally, it felt like there was always something missing, I wanted more. I just didn't know what it was at the time.

I have at times wondered what life would have been like if I knew then what I know now.

How different my life could have been and how it may have been different for those around me too.

It would be so easy to live in regret of course over this but I choose not to.

There is no point in being stuck in the short term or long term past.

You can't change it and it does very little to help move you forward.

This is something I have worked on through self-coaching.

As a result, I feel like I have really come into my own now, I know so much more about who I am, what I want, why, and I continue to figure out how to go about getting it and this is all thanks to my weight loss journey.

This is ultimately what I want for you and all of my Triple-A Women.

I want you to identify what is it you want and to go and grab it.

I wish for you to have your own personal cliched as it is "best" life.  I wish for you to have sustained wellness/weight loss and that you find as much joy in the process. It is at the end of the day your journey to your goals whatever they may be that is priceless and life-changing.

It is by going through the ups and downs, learning and growing each time that makes you so much stronger, so much more capable and resilient.

It is by working on yourself, however, that may be (your mindset, health, fitness, nutrition) that you can become the best version of YOU!

And in the process with the methodology I teach is when all of the other pieces of your life can start to fall into place as a result.

Are ready to carve your own path to success in life & weight loss?

It really is true when they say "if you want something different you have to do something different".

For me, this started with unlearning everything I thought I knew about weight loss, health and fitness. It was about ripping up the rule book and working on getting rid of all the old diet rules that I had gathered through the years as these were what kept me stuck in a never-ending cycle of restriction and overeating and ultimately yo-yo dieting. Losing and gaining weight like it was a second job.

I had been on so many diets, each one made me miserable, each time leaving me yet another list of to-dos and each time I quit it would just re-enforce what I had thought for years that I was rubbish, I was not good enough and that I was a failure.

I have not met many women who have not tried multiple diets or been on multiple diets in their lifetime.

There are over 100 diets out there in the world all promising success and this I think is very telling! 

IF, they worked why do people have to go back to them time and time again? 

Why do we have restarts, fresh starts and getting back on the wagon? 

What if there is no wagon? 

What if we just have...LIFE!

This is ultimately what the diet industry wants, it keeps them in business, praying on the fact we are humans and that we are not able to keep our attention doing the same thing all the time which is all they pedal. I do not know of many diets that do not have some kind of rule attached or restriction and there are very few that look at you as a whole being.

It is no wonder we can dread going on diets, they have notoriety for being hard mentally and physically but what if it doesn't have to be that way?

Let's face it, some kind of hard or restrictive diet, is, of course, I say with full sarcasm, just what you want to do when you already perhaps think your life is crap or you hate how you look and feel in your own skin, I know I certainly did at times.

My history with dieting had got to the point I was prepared to give up on weight loss and in turn, I was ready to give up on myself because it was all just "too hard".

It's no wonder that most of us as result also start off on a weight loss journey wishing we were at goal already.

We have thoughts like "My life would be so much better if I just lost my weight".

Zero judgment from me, I did too and it is perfectly normal but to be honest, if it had just been handed to me on a plate I would have missed the best bit.

The journey.

It was the journey that was powerful the satisfaction of knowing I showed up for myself and that I alone am the one who changed your life.

How would that feel for you if you knew you had your own back no matter what and that you and you alone changed your life and achieved your dreams?

This is why it is critical you do things your way and weight loss is no different. You will be infinitely more successful, happier and feel more fulfilled than if you try to live life the way someone else tells you to or the way you think you should.

The world tells us we should make a certain amount of money, be in the perfect relationship, have perfect children who excel at everything they do. The list is endless and frankly, it's bs!

The diet industry is the same, telling us we should look a certain way, be a certain size, do certain diets, eat this, drink that, move this way. It is exhausting!

All of this creates expectation, and if you continue to listen to all of this and soak it all in you start to compare and despair as you start to feel you are not living up to what is expected of you.

There comes a point where you have to really ask yourself are you living your life the way you want to or the way you think you "should" or maybe "have"?

I say it is time to stop comparing to others, time to stop following the mainstream and focus on being the best version of you, to be the heroine of your own story whatever that may be.

You are enough just as you are, and when you know that and live from that place everything else falls into place.

Life & weight loss is not a one size fits all approach. You are unique and you deserve the best. This is why I help my Triple-A Women to carve their own paths and to build their own system that works for them and their life and because you are enough you can come at it from love, curiosity and compassion rather than fear and restriction.

In a world where we are constantly bombarded with messages about how we should look and behave, it can be hard to know what is truly best for us.

That's why I believe that living life your way is the most important thing you can do and from that, you feel more authentic and aligned which brings joy and contentment.

They both help you to listen to your mind, body and soul, which is essential when it comes to making decisions around life, food and weight loss that fit YOU and YOUR life.

Both approaches involve developing a relationship with yourself, which is the foundation of living a fulfilling life on your own terms. When you learn to trust yourself, you'll be less likely to make decisions based on what others think is best for you, or what you think you should do and more likely to do what feels right for you. This can lead to a more successful and happier life, as well as better health and weight loss results.

As you gather awareness and step into action YOU start to develop a healthier relationship with food by making peace with food, breaking the diet mentality, and also in turn work on developing a healthy relationship with your body and life. I would be honoured to walk alongside you to guide and provide accountability.

Living life your way is the most important thing you can do for yourself.

Following someone else's path typically will only lead to frustration and unhappiness.

Instead, focus on being the best version of yourself and carve your own unique path in life. This is the key to success and happiness.

This works for, weight loss too diets are often a one size fits all approach which is why they often do not work as they do not account for your unique needs and tastes.
