Hello hello hello and welcome to episode number 75 of the Wellness 4 Women Show. Today I want to take you on a treasure hunt!
We are not looking for the lost treasure of Atlantis or the hidden gold of El Dorado. Instead, I am going to take you on a journey to discover the inner treasures and the gems, that lie within you!
I was talking to one of my inner circle recently regarding worth and looking outside for validation, and it got me thinking about how many of us seek external validation to feel worthy or valuable.
So often, we search for happiness and fulfilment outside of ourselves - in material possessions, relationships, or achievements. However, true lasting joy comes from discovering and nurturing our inner treasures.
Unless this is the first time catching the show... in which case Hi!!! One of the biggest treasures we can possess is unconditional self-love and acceptance. It may sound cliché, but it truly is the foundation for a fulfilling life. Self-love means accepting yourself fully - flaws and all. For me, it is about knowing yourself deeply and knowing that we have so much more power within ourselves and that we can shape and change our lives.
So grab your metaphorical shovel and let's dig deep to find your gold, the thrill of discovering hidden gems in this treasure hunt of holistic wellness and self-care it is going to be powerful AF.
So grab a pen and paper because I'm going to guide you through a series of clues that will unlock the path to ultimate well-being.
Have you ever given any thought to defining what well-being means to you? Let me know in the chat what does it mean to you?
For me, having total well-being would be about having my physical, mental, and emotional health all in check but also having balance, peace and joy in life and a feeling of connection and being connected.
I'd want my body to be nourished with decent quality food, to feel strong and energised. To continue to have a positive mindset, to practice self-compassion, and to handle life stressors effectively.
It is also about peace and joy, I want to be happy in my own skin. This is where the concept of the spirit or soul can come into play. While most diets will tend to focus solely on physical health and fitness, it's essential to recognise that nurturing your inner spirit is just as crucial for overall well-being.
For me, our spirit or soul represents the core essence of who we are. It is our beliefs, values, emotions, and deepest desires. When we neglect this part of ourselves, we are denying ourselves true happiness and fulfilment. It's like trying to sail a boat without tending to its engine; eventually, it will lose its power and direction.
No matter what challenges life throws at us. Be it 'weight loss' struggles or anything else, it's important to remember that nourishing our inner spirit is vital for finding lasting balance and contentment. Cultivating a connection with your spirit, soul, and yourself allows you to acknowledge your needs on a deeper level so you can make choices that align with your true self rather than conform to societal expectations or external pressures.
To get in touch with your spirit you have to do the inner work, really get to the core of who you are. What makes you, you and your hopes, dreams, desires.
This week's accompanying member resource is an exercise on finding your values. What is really important to you! Not a member yet, check the description or comments.
I'd love to know what you are thinking right now. Maybe it is why bother? Maybe you are concerned about what you might find, or maybe you are excited to delve deeper into yourself. Whatever your thoughts your take-home point is that self-discovery is a journey worth taking.
Jot it down, are you a hell yeah or a hell no? What is the resistance you are feeling? What are you thinking?
In our fast-paced world filled with distractions, it's crucial to slow down. Embracing mindfulness can certainly help with this. Before I started my journey I thought mindfulness was a bunch of poppycock, something flimsy with no real purpose and just something you did to be a bit new age and hip. But it is so much, learning how to become fully present in any given moment not just when mediating being in nature or the like but through life and using this to your advantage is something not to be missed.
It can encompass all areas of your holistic well-being physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social so you are covering your holistic basis.
Mindfulness enable you to go on a journey of self-discovery.
It allows you to peel back the layers of your thoughts, emotions, and patterns of behaviour, gaining a deeper understanding of yourself. As I delved into the practice of mindfulness, I found that it offered me a new perspective on life.
Instead of being caught up in the constant whirlwind of worries about the past or future, mindfulness taught me to focus on the present moment. It allowed me to let go of unnecessary stress and anxiety and appreciate life more.
Through mindfulness, you can get to know yourself on all of the holistic levels, physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social on a deeper level it can lead to profound changes in your life and lifestyle which will impact how you show up in 'weight' loss.
It is a wonder to observe people working mindfully through their lives. I have seen this in my members and in my inner circle members, where they take their lives off of autopilot and embrace mindfulness how it can transform their overall well-being and bring them more peace.
I can see them working on creating a non-judgmental attitude towards themselves and others.
Paying attention to our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations without attaching any labels or criticisms.
Developing a deeper understanding of themselves and their reactions to different situations which they then start to change.
They became more aware of their eating, their general habits and life goals. Start to feel really good about themselves, their eating for the first time in years.
It is a beauty to behold.
Understanding your spirit and what makes you, you is crucial when it comes to unraveling the complexities of your motivations, triggers, and emotional eating patterns. Your spirit can encompass your core values, your beliefs, desires, and passions - all of which play a significant role in how you perceive yourself and the world around you. It could mean your religion or spiritual belief, it can mean connection to a higher self, or to your self or higher self, connection to others or maybe it is having joy, happiness and purpose.
At the end of the day, you can define what this means for you. This is your life journey I just want to encourage you to take it.
All of these aspects of your spirit though will feed into your beliefs and motivations and the driving forces behind your actions, including those related to food.
By delving into your spirit and understanding what truly motivates you on that deeper level, you can gain insight into why you overeat or have unhealthy habits, why you have the relationships you have, how you work, how you play, and why you make certain choices in your life.
Exploring your spirit allows you to uncover any hidden patterns or beliefs that may be holding you back from living a fulfilling and balanced life.
Your spirit can be like a compass, guiding you towards joy, fulfilment, and purpose as it is the essence of who you truly are beyond societal expectations or external influences.
In the membership, for this episode, I am dropping a resource on identifying your values. I talk about our life being like a jigsaw, I call it the metaphorical jigsaw. We have our cornet pieces which we know where they go, the straight edges that are easier to place, the bits in the middle can be a bit messy, some are turned over, some hidden, some clear, some fall (on the floor). Your values are one of the jigsaw pieces that make up your belief system. Knowing these pieces can help you identify when something is off balance.
As you begin the process of finding your values, and start to ask yourself thought-provoking questions. As you reflect with love and compassion on moments in your life you can start to find your underlying values and how they either showed up in that moment or were impacted if it was a more negative experience.
If you discover your core values you can identify how you can truly feel fulfilled and aligned with your authentic self.
From this, you can move forward with love and compassion so you can grow and glow.
I have done this exercise a few times for business as yes you can do this for business too and also for myself but our core values are ones are usually pretty steadfast.
As you know the Triple-A-Way™️ approach has it's three fundamentals: Awareness, Action, and Accountability. I've talked about awareness, the importance of getting a clear understanding of your inner spirit but how do you step into action with what you discover?
One of the members, literally posted today about how they were working on their values and beliefs around food guilt and being out of alignment as they couldn't fix it quickly.
This is fabulous awareness.
Knowing where your resistance is what is rubbing you up the wrong way will help you to figure out the next action step and to move into accountability and actually get this done.
Once you've discovered your inner treasures, it's time to work on aligning your actions with your authentic self where possible. Making choices that resonate with your values and desires. For example, if one of your core values is health, you might choose nourishing foods and regular exercise over unhealthy habits.
You can work on your thoughts around the resistance and the rubbing of those values so you feel less guilt, shame, and resistance and step into loving curiosity instead. You can take the heat out of the thoughts and feelings.
You can spend time re-evaluating your values, ask yourself why these values are important to you. Understanding the underlying motivations can shed light on potential solutions. Maybe the values need adjusting or could there be a way to reinterpret them in a manner that aligns with your long-term well-being. For example, if you believe in being quick and efficient but weight loss is not matching up to that desire and expectation you can do more around setting realistic and sustainable goals and work with the resistance and the desire to go seeking quick fixes and fads for the speed.
In my inner circle, we have had a few discussions about conflicting beliefs and desires. That desire to lose weight is strong but yet there is also the belief that you won't make it. Each one wins out on a different day which is why weight loss can be a roller coaster. But we can shift and change our beliefs and thoughts.
You can work on being accountable, taking responsibility for your actions and choices. Work on building your motivation giving yourself encouragement on your journey. Using the community. Using the coaching available.
You can keep practising working on progress, not perfection and super sleuthing your life and weight loss. Checking on progress, reflecting and adjusting regularly to build your own unique path.
Most importantly just keep showing up. You are doing the best you can in any given moment with the tools you have and everything is figuroutable.
Right, that's your lot. We went on a little treasure hunt to your inner world Let me know your takeaway points with a #gem followed by what you have learnt. If you are in the membership your resource will be with you over the weekend. Not a member come play the link is in the description box or in the comments.
