CATCH THE REPLAY TODAY:
Hello Hello Hello and Welcome to episode number 49 of the Wellness 4 Women Show
Last week I encouraged you to check in on who you were and who you want to be.
Why?
Because, as women, we often wear many hats. We are wives/partners, mothers, sisters, daughters, employees, business owners, and bosses. We are expected to do it all and do it well. We can also put ourselves under crazy pressure to get shit done too.
But in the midst of all of our responsibilities, it's important to make time for ourselves. We need to prioritize our own health and well-being in order to be our best selves for those we love and those who rely on us.
Working on your life and health and general well-being can seem like a daunting task, especially if you've perhaps not done so in a while. But it's never too late to start.
Maybe you are already on the way but putting off levelling up.
The sooner you begin, the easier it will be to see results.
In today's fast-paced world, it's easy for us women to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of work and family responsibilities and there are a number of stories as to why that happens. But the truth is, making time for your health and well-being is essential, no matter how busy you are. And while it's never too late to start taking care of yourself, the sooner you make it a priority, the easier it will be to see results.
I know too well how not looking after yourself can impact your life and well-being so I want to start with a little story.
The story of how I got started. So, at the time I just wanted to be ‘thinner’. To the outside world, I put on a smiley face, said I was happy how I was, and there was nothing wrong with me jack.
Inside, however, I would look at models and athletes and wish I looked like them. I would compare and despair over friends, colleagues and people on the street who were ‘thinner’ than me. I thought I would be happier if I just lost weight. I just wanted to be ‘normal’. I didn’t want to have to worry anymore what I ate, how I looked, how I acted everything just felt so dramatic and stressful.
The funny thing is though although I wanted to be different, I wanted desperately to occupy a smaller body. I kept putting it off.
I didn’t want to go on yet another diet. I thought weight loss and working on my well-being, after years of failed attempts was too hard. That I could never achieve what I wanted to. That I just didn’t have the discipline or willpower. That I was just always going to be overweight.
I was a yo-yo dieter. I’d start a program, lose a little, declare myself cured and then put it all back on again.
When I occupied a larger body I had a fatty liver, indigestion, back ache, knee ache and had a whole host of other issues too.
It was exhausting at times being well… me!
My life was exhausting. Everything I did then seemed harder too, so I put off other things. Didn’t work on relationships, didn’t try to improve on my career. I kept telling myself everything was fine and plodded on.
But really, I was just surviving not thriving.
I didn’t even know it was possible to thrive!
To feel like I could be more than I was.
I thought this was to do with my weight.
In truth, though it wasn’t my weight that held me back… it was ME!
I didn’t know any of this though at the time.
I just simply didn’t have the tools or self-awareness to know what was holding me back, why and how.
My weight loss journey brought all of this to me.
Through working on weight loss I have discovered so much about myself, my life and who I am that I can never go back.
I can never go back to the person I used to be.
There was of course nothing wrong with me intrinsically. We are all perfectly imperfect just the way we are but yet we also can be so much more if we want to.
Every single one of us on the planet can be more if we chose to be.
Every one of us can level up in some way even if it is just in a small way but small way could make the difference to whether you survive or thrive. Whether those around you survive or thrive.
So, I say the time is NOW.
It is time to look in to see what your inner callings are. What is stopping you from being the person you want to be physically, mentally, spiritually… what can you do to change where you are and level up to become and even more magnificent version of the person you current are.
What would you change?
Who would you love to be?
You may have heard my story before but I kind of fell into my weight loss journey. I was ‘happily’ going around telling myself I was all right jack when I stumbled across a podcast and this women made so much sense.
What…
I don’t have to restrict to lose weight?
I can be kind to myself.
I don’t have to eat salad until it comes out of my ears I can eat real food?
I don’t have to do cardio?
That weight loss could be simple.
That weight loss didn’t have to involve, points, counting, shakes, fads
I can take control of my life and weight loss.
The power is in me!
My mind was literally blown that day!
It started me on my path. I started to absorb all this information about coaching, self-coaching, intuitive eating, mindfulness things that I had never heard of before or if I had turned out I didn’t really know about.
I started to believe MY time was NOW!
I started to feel empowered… driven… in control for the first time maybe ever and I can tell you it was heady.
This is what I want for all of you. Whether it is with me as your coach or another I want you to feel the power you have within.
This is how the Triple-A-Way™️ Method was born.
I realised that everything I had been doing to get me to my 70lb loss. To get me the promotion. To better my relationships. To feel happier fitted into those categories. I honestly cannot think of another one.
Now as coaches we all have our methods. We are encouraged by our coaches to have our ‘pillars’ that everyone goes through but mine were there more like pillars with beacons of light on top.
Yes, they are the foundations, just like a pillar they are strong and steadfast but they also have light coming out of them because by using them you can feel lighter, find freedom, feel relief and thus more joy.
So the time is NOW.
The time is NOW to feel strong… to feel in control… to feel lighter.. to feel healthier.. to feel free… to feel relief… to feel more joy!
Let me know what you want more of in your life in the comments.
So, why weight loss?
Well, doesn’t have to be weight loss you can turn it to well-being or wellness. I talk weight loss as this my speciality as well as well-being in general.
Just like Froddo in the Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter trying to vanquish Voldamort you need a journey.
Something where you can start where you are but grow to become the heroine of that story.
You need the trials and tribulations to grow through what you go through.
You need the highs to remind you that you are on the right path.
You need community because just like every great hero they are often not lone wolves.
This, however, does not mean though that your journey has to suck!
It does not have to be a tale of desperation, despair, misery.
It can be an uplifting journey of discovery and curiosity and fun.
If you chose!
Because the key with all of this is… you get to choose.
What if I was to tell you, you can choose how you think, feel and act in any given moment.
That life is not happening to you that you can choose what happens in life and in your weight loss and well-being.
Now I know you may not feel this right now.
If you are where I was a few years ago you may think poppycock or you may think yes but I have things that are out of my control, like my job, health etc.
This of course is true, you are not in control of everything which is why I can help you identify what is and is not in your control and how you can optimise every situation.
In summary, I wish I had known years ago about intuitive eating, mindfulness and life-coaching but I am so grateful to have found it now.
So the main message for today really is it is never too late and you can start right now you can keep it simple just like I did!
Here are a few reasons why making yourself a priority NOW and working on your health and well-being as early as possible is a fab idea:
Don’t forget to pop into the Wellness 4 Women Group and let us know your takeaways from this episode. As a community, we learn from each other, and by discussing what comes up and getting support.
When you take care of yourself physically, you are likely to have more energy to put towards the things and people that matter most to you.
How would your career or business thrive? What could you do with or for, your children, partner or loved ones? Maybe you have a hobby you would like to pursue but feel your health is holding you back?
When you feel like you are truly taking care of yourselves, to the best of your abilities, you have more energy and motivation to accomplish your goals.
I have so much more energy now in comparison to what I used to although there is still room for improvement. I also have so much more drive than I used to after having committed to myself throughout the process.
It is often said that happy people tend to be healthier people. When you make your overall well-being a priority, you tend to feel better mentally and emotionally as well as physically.
Your sleep can improve, your immune system can be stronger, it can help reduce stress levels and improve your moods overall.
Imagine again, what this could do for your career/business; loved ones and other pursuits.
I have already outlined the health issues I had. They are all gone near enough. My back still twinges if I do too much housework or gardening but this could potentially be improved once I get my yoga routine back in place again.
Ok so this one could seem a little controversial because I know everyone of is doing our best at the time with what we have (so if you feel called out I apologise!) but this really means a lot to me.
I really want to help stop the suffering we women go through when trying to lose weight. I really do want to help as many women as they can to work on ditching diet drama.
Why?
Because I want to help women inspire others to do the same. Whether that be their family, their kids, or the neighbour next door.
The more women I can help ditch diet drama, fads and other sometimes frankly dangerous practices in favour of good old common sense the better.
I stand against the diet industry that tells us we need to be fixed, that there is something wrong with us and we must follow their rules.
I and many others are an example of how you can get healthier without calorie counting, points, shakes, pills, depriving yourself or exercising like a crazy person.
Without beating ourselves up, being mean to ourselves or downright cruel.
A weight loss journey when done on your terms that you can truly sustain which is what I teach is a truly powerful journey.
I have accomplished a fair bit over my life (not that I gave myself credit for it at the time - thank you self-worth issues!) but now after my journey, I don’t mind at all telling you what I have done and what I have accomplished. It is not bragging or boasting I am just stating the facts.
You can become stronger in so many ways and that doesn't just mean physical strength but mental, emotional, spiritual and financial too. It's all available to us if we take the time to cultivate these areas of our lives and I for one am not going back to my old ways as this is my time and I know it is yours too!
When you take care of yourself and put your health first, you are able to be more to those around you because you will feel worth more to yourself.
This is something that can carry over into other areas of your life as well such as your work and business.
As you are going to feel more confident. You will feel unstoppable.
Confidence breeds success!
6. You will feel amazing!
Naturally, if you have worked on yourself mentally and physically you are going to feel amazing. You will feel lighter, more energised and more capable of taking on the world.
You will be full of life and ready to take on anything!
Ok folks that is it for tonight in summary:
Conclusion
Taking care of yourself is not selfish; it's necessary. Necessary for you, others and for success.
The sooner you start taking care of yourself, the better off you'll be in the long run. So don't wait until tomorrow; start today. It doesn’t have to be hard. Keep it easy. Embrace the journey. Commit to you, commit to figuring it out. Find things that bring you joy.
What can you do today to prioritise your well-being?
As usual, want to really make sure you are getting the benefit out of these videos then don't forget to leave your #gems in the Wellness 4 Women Group.
